Marshfield Young Eagle Awarded Young Eagles Flight Training Scholarship!

May 26, 2010 —

Great news from Oshkosh! Today, Young Eagle Tyler Stargardt received a phone call from Brian O'Lena, Youth Programs Manager at EAA Headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, notifying him that he is the distinguished recipient of the Young Eagles Flight Training Scholarship in the amount of $7,500 toward his Private Pilot Certificate.

Tyler was extremely excited to receive the news, and is on track to receive his license on his 17th birthday in June. EAA Chapter 992 is so very proud of Tyler and his accomplishments. Dave Wells, Tyler's instructor, has always had the highest regard for Tyler as a pilot, and is confident that he will have no problem whatsoever with his check ride. As he says over and over again, "Tyler is a natural born pilot."

Tyler's mother, Sandy, was in tears when she received the call. "Tyler has always wanted to fly. During his Young Eagles flight with Starr Carpenter, he said that if she died, he's sure he could land the plane safely." Of course, we're all glad that Starr is alive and with us, and that Tyler can, indeed, land the plane on his own.

Brian O'Lena states that the selection committee was very impressed with Tyler's dedication to the program, as well as his involvement in many other activities in school and in the community. The competition was tough, and Tyler came out on top.

Congratulations Tyler!
